Modest Mouse New Album 'Strangers to Ourselves': Group Announces First LP in Eight Years

It has been a while since we got a new Modest Mouse record — seven years, to be exact. By March 2015, it will be eight years. But MM fans got great news this weekend when the group shipped a special vinyl edition of their new single "Lampshades on Fire" to a select group of die-hards with a note that contained a big announcement.

Check it:

We want you to have this limited test pressing of our new single "Lampshades On Fire."

The song will be available for purchase tomorrow, Tuesday, December 16.

"Lampshades On Fire" is the first single from our new album Strangers To Ourselves, which will be released on Tuesday, March 3, 2015.

MM posted a cryptic photo Friday, Dec. 12, that could be the new album cover. The visual fits into the Strangers to Ourselves idea, with several houses clumped together in some sort of elite community that could have a warped sense of reality. Check it out below:

2007's We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank was the last full studio effort from the group, with the 2009 EP No One's First and You're Next tiding fans over before the turn of the decade.

"Lampshades on Fire" will mark the official return of the band this Tuesday, Dec. 16, with radio airplay beginning Monday, Dec. 15. Check out their 2011 performance of the tune below:
