While in New York, Big Sean stopped by Power 105.1's The Breakfast Club to catch up with Charlamagne Tha God, Angela Yee and DJ Envy. They chatted about the success of his latest hit "I Don't F**k With You," his first Eminem collaboration "Detroit Vs. Everybody," his relationship with Ariana Grande, and some details on his upcoming album. However, he dodged a lot of their other questions by simply responding, "You think so?" Check out what he had to say below.
On the success of "I Don't Fuck With You":
I guess it's a relatable song, but first of all I want to state that when we first came out with the song I was in [a relationship] with [Naya Rivera] and I vividly remember playing it for [her.] So the point is, it wasn't no diss song, but it feels good. It's an anthem. I did probably go back and change a couple lines probably. I tweaked it because we had the time. That's just the responsibility of an artist. I rap what I go through. I got to keep it authentic.
On the concept for the "IDFWU" video
We just wanted to come up with a concept that was fun, something different. I didn't want to stand in front of no Rolls-Royce. I felt like it related to the song. I just wanted show the different elements and different meanings of the song. It's just an anthem. It went all the way down to the sports. You don't f**k with the other team.
On the "Detroit vs. Everybody" collaboration:
This was the first collab [with Eminem]. We shooting a video for it coming up in the D.
On Ariana Grande being a diva and getting carried everywhere she goes:
That doesn't even sound logical. She doesn't get carried around. I remember I was with her one time and she got carried but it was because her foot was bleeding. She busted her foot dancing and stuff. I'm a dead that right now. That's not even true for real.
On how he met Grande and what their relationship is like:
I met her a few years ago at like one of the radio shows -- Wango Tango. When I met her it was just cool, she was like, 'Yo I like your music.' She knew "Gang Bang." She was like rapping "Gang Bang." She was like, "I know the verses." So then we just linked up like that. We was hanging out a little bit and just was friends over the years. But I think that's the coolest way to do it, man.
On the media paying so much attention to his relationships"
I don't even be thinking about it. I be focused. We got a lot of work to do. I'm busy. I'm doing as much as I can for my city, for my family. I don't really care about what people be saying. I don't like her because she's a pop princess. I like her because of who she is. She's cool, man. She bring out the best in me.
On his new album and reports of it being darker:
I mean it's kind of just a time capsule of my whole life in the past year. You could just imagine all the things I've been through. It's ups and down. It's all going to make sense when I drop the album, when I drop the title and all that stuff. It's coming soon. We wrapping it up right now. 'Ye is on the album. He wasn't on the last one, so he on this one.
