Today saw the release of a new track from GS9's own Abillyon. The track, titled "Weight Up," features Bobby Shmurda and features experimentation with autotune in the production.
The track could be interpreted as the GS9 crew's new mantra, inspiring members Bobby Shmurda and Rowdy Rebel to stay focused and stay tough as the two are facing very serious charges after an arrest last year.
Some lyrics worth mentioning include, "Now it's time to get my weight up n--ga / I'm finna throw a couple / Y'all n--gas on the list / Let's have your favorite shooter in your clique / And I don't miss," and the verse goes on to mention a drive by.
The mention of drive bys and hints at gang violence are ironic in light of recent events, considering Special Narcotics Prosecutor Bridget Brennan said during a news conference, "The case carries some deeply disturbing themes: The gang members' enthrallment with guns, and a cavalier disregard for human life."
Bobby Shmurda has pleaded not guilty to the charges, which was a laundry list including reckless endangerment in the second degree, conspiracy in the second degree, three counts of conspiracy in the third degree, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and one count of criminal possession of drug paraphernalia. Depending on how things go in court, Shmurda could be facing 8 to 25 years if found guilty of the conspiracy charges and a maximum of 15 years for each weapon charge.
While the crew anticipates the court's verdicts for members Bobby Shmurda and Rowdy Rebel, it is refreshing to see Abillyon releasing new music.
What do you think of "Weight Up?" Are you a fan of the GS9 crew? Do you think we'll continue to see new music released by GS9 members while the courts decide their fate?
