Rolling Stones plan Australian tour, announce Adelaide concert to reopen famous Adelaide Oval

The Rolling Stones recently completed the "50 & Counting" Tour in the United States, but it seems as if they're not done counting yet. It was announced that the rock group would be heading to Australia during 2014, although only date/location is confirmed for the time being.

The confirmed show will be in Adelaide, the band's first visit to the city since its 1995 "Voodoo" tour. The Stones will help commemorate the reopening of the Adelaide Oval, an outdoor arena that's famous for hosting cricket matches and Australian rules football. One of the special features of the show will be the "guest appearance" of Mick Taylor, a guitarist who spent five years with the band entering the '70s, and was included on seminal albums such as Let It Bleed and Exile On Main Street.

Official numbers haven't been released yet, but it stands to reason that the Stones' "50 & Counting" run will be the highest earning tour for 2013. Naturally, the Adelaide gig will only add to that total. The South Australian state government is providing $423,000 (American dollars) to draw the band, which seems like a rather paltry sum compared to the $503 million that they spent on refurbishing the stadium. Perhaps the government just likes rock 'n' roll, as an official statement proudly declared the staging of the show will require 60 trucks worth of equipment.

Tickets go on sale November 25, starting at $74 a pop. It might sound crazy, but that's a fairly reasonable price compared to the typical arena tour from foreign bands down under.

The Stones have confirmed that there will be more announcements of Australian dates coming in the next few weeks (and one New Zealand date).
