Documentary Claims Tom Cruise Asked Scientologists to Tap Nicole Kidman's Phone While Married

There have been rumors for years about the kind of behavior Tom Cruise resorts to, all in the name of Scientology. His control freak nature is a huge part of what caused his marriage to Katie Holmes to collapse, and it also reportedly played a part in his split from Nicole Kidman all the way back in 2001. A new documentary premiered at the Sundance Film Festival Sunday, Jan. 25, that blows the lid off the cult-like religion and also dishes some of the dirt on the celebrities, like Cruise, who follow it. Namely, he allegedly asked Scientologists to tap her phone.

Former Scientologist Mark "Marty" Rathbun, a member of the church for many years and a key aide to church head David Miscavige, makes many interesting allegations in the explosive new documentary Going Clear: Scientology & the Prison of Belief. One of those is that while married to Cruise, Kidman's phones were tapped at the urging of her husband and Miscavige.

The organization was all for splitting up the couple because as long as he remained with Kidman, Cruise remained on the fringe of Scientology. It was not until they actually divorced in 2001 that the actor became completely rooted in the church. It reportedly was not a fan of the actress because her father, Anthony Kidman, was a popular psychiatrist and Scientologists are very much against that branch of medicine.

As for the idea of tapping phones, back when Holmes was plotting to leave Cruise she reportedly had a secret phone to make calls so her husband would not know what she was really up to.
