With Christina Aguilera having returned to The Voice this week, it's fitting that Ed Sheeran decided to cover one of her early hits, "Dirrty," for his BBC 1 Live Lounge session. He keeps the song funky and sexy while giving it a soulful tinge. He even takes on Redman's rap verses with ease.
Although he killed his "Dirrty" cover, he had originally planned to perform a different song.
"Found out the song I learnt for live lounge tomorrow mornin is banned, so back to the drawing board, open to suggestions," he wrote on Twitter.
BBC Radio 1 also posted another video today of Sheeran covering O.T. Genasis' hit "CoCo." Accompanied by an acoustic guitar, he gives the drug-championing rap song a soulful twist.
Meanwhile, Sheeran is prepping for the 2015 Brit Awards, which take place tomorrow. Sheeran is nominated for a number of awards including Best Male Solo against Damon Albarn, George Ezra, Paolo Nutini, and Sam Smith; British Single and British Video for his song "Thinking Out Loud;" and British Album of the Year for his latest effort X, against alt-J, George Ezra, Royal Blood, and Sam Smith. He will also be performing at the ceremony.
Sheeran is currently on tour in support of X. He will head stateside in May, kicking off his North American jaunt in New Orleans.
