Young Thug announced last year that his first proper studio album would be titled Carter 6, carrying on Lil Wayne's legacy following his proposed retirement. Now it's looking as if Carter 6 might drop before Wayne's fifth installment as he continues to battle Young Money to have his effort released. You'd think that Thugger might've switched gears in light of Wayne's current predicament, but it appears as if he is going forward with the title.
Yesterday he shared a snippet of a "Grindin" remix on Instagram with the caption, "#CARTER6 OTW." Thug's reps at 300 confirmed the project in a separate tweet, although it's unclear if the project in question is his debut album or another mixtape.
Not surprisingly, Tunechi fans aren't too happy about the title, particularly Wayne's daughter Reginae Carter. She stepped in to defend her father's legacy with a series of tweets, criticizing Thug for stealing the title from her dad and calling the decision "childish."
"Is he trying to be funny with this Carter6 [poop emoji]? Cause it's pretty childish to me! #myopinion," she wrote adding, "Try again if you're even trying to get on my fathers level. Listen I usually stay in a child's place but that's my father and I'll stick up for him no matter what! It was not to be disrespectful. But you know what. I don't have to explain myself! I don't regret anything and I'll repeat myself if I have to. Behind all the cameras and media, there's a real family with feelings. YOU CANT SIT WITH US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
It's unclear what Wayne thinks of all of this and whether Thug is still naming his album after Tunechi as a sign of respect.
