Sometimes, you have to think before you tweet to your legions of followers... and that's a lesson that Drake is learning the hard way. After discouraging his fans from seeing the upcoming documentary Drake: Homecoming: The Lost Footage earlier this week and severing ties with the film, the production company behind the movie have made through on their threat and slapped the "Energy" rapper with a big lawsuit.
The production company Specticast is suing Drake for defaming the film on his Twitter, according to TMZ. Specticast are speculating that Drake is disowning the movie for his own personal gain.
On Monday (March 16), Drake tweeted out that neither he nor his company OVO have any affiliation with Drake: Homecoming, a documentary that was filmed in 2009 just one month before he signed with Lil Wayne's Young Money.
The tweet is the source of the lawsuit, because Drake actually had signed on to the film, getting $15,000 in advance and a 15 percent net profit when it was released, relative peanuts to what the superstar can nab just six years later.
In addition to disowning the film, Specticast alleges that Drake only tweeted out the "warning" about Drake: Homecoming to draw attention to his Twitter page so fans would be paying attention when he announced the OVO Fest 2015 lineup later in the week.
Drake has yet to respond to the Twitter allegations or the pending lawsuit.
In the meanwhile, Drake: Homecoming: The Lost Footage will be hitting AMC Theaters tonight (March 19) for a one-night engagement.
