Finally, Frank Ocean has confirmed that he has a new album on the way. Last night (April 6), the "Thinking About You" singer made a mysterious post on his Tumblr, teasing that he had "two versions" of something, and now it has been revealed that he finally has his Channel Orange follow-up on the way with a summer release date.
"I got two versions. I got twooo versions..." Ocean wrote in a post on his photo blog. The ominous, teasing statement was accompanied by two identical photos of Ocean squatting next to two stacks of magazines. The tags on the post seemed to indicate what he was talking about: a new album. #ISSUE1 #ALBUM3 #JULY2015 #BOYSDONTCRY, he wrote, finally revealing a release month for his long-anticipated project.
Billboard later confirmed that Ocean's new album is, in fact, on the way and set for a July release date.
But that's not all he has in store. In addition to the album, Ocean's "#ISSUE1" refers to a new publication he's releasing, a magazine called Boys Don't Cry. As for his album, that is still untitled.
Little information is out there regarding Ocean's third studio album. But, he has been spotted in the studio over the last year and was reportedly working with prolific rapper Lil B. His Tumblr post also seems to indicate that he has two versions of the new album, though that is unconfirmed (as is what he will do with the two separate LPs).
Ocean's new album is one of the most anticipated new releases of 2015. It's the immediate follow-up to his universally critically acclaimed album Channel Orange, which was released in July 2012. Channel Orange went on to be nominated for two Grammys in 2013, including Album of the Year. The record eventually took home the award for Best Urban Contemporary Album.
