Even though 2014 hasn't treated Lady Gaga particularly kindly so far, the Mother Monster does have reason to celebrate this week. Her latest studio album ARTPOP will finally see an international release in China.
Earlier this week (Jan. 13), Gaga announced the Chinese release on her official Twitter account. "I'm so excited!!!! The Chinese Government Approved ARTPOP to be released in China with all 15 songs! Next I hope I can come to perform," she wrote to her 41 million followers.
The Chinese government allowing ARTPOP to be released is a big step for Gaga's relations with the company. Three years ago, the Chinese government banned a slew of artists from being sold in the country for being too vulgar or inappropriate, including Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and even the Backstreet Boys.
So, is a Chinese tour in store for Gaga to help spread the gospel of ARTPOP? The jury's still out on that one.
A Chinese release date for the new album has yet to be announced, but hopefully Gaga won't have to deal with any delays like in other aspects of her career.
Though initially teased over a month ago, the official clip for her second single "Do What U Want" has yet to get, well, anything. A second teaser, short video clip or a release date have not been unveiled, a highly unusual occurrence in the modern pop world, and one Gaga addressed in an emotional, lengthy post on her Little Monsters site earlier this month.
