Ludacris Talks 'Ludaversal,' the Rap Game and How He Silenced Critics

Even Ludacris can't believe the success he's having with his new album, Ludaversal. "I'm my biggest critic, but this sh*t is out of control," the rapper told Rolling Stone recently. The album is his first in five years, so it sounds like Luda is just readjusting to the musical limelight. But with tracks like "Beast Mode" and "Good Lovin'," you should probably believe the hype.

"My whole goal was this: What the f*ck is gonna make somebody go buy a Ludacris album after seven albums? How could he even reinvent himself? Well, damn it, here you have it," he explained.

Luda talked about the aggression on the album, which was pointed at critics who thought he had given up the rap game for a film career. But he promised that music is still the passion that drives him the most.

"The moment you stop caring, you're your own worst enemy," he said. "So I do care. I know a lot of people just say sh*t to say it, because they have no idea who I am or what my life is. At the end of the day, it's between me and God. I know I'm the best rapper there is."

He opened up about the album, sharing personal details about his life. Luda explained that the hardest subject to put into the effort was his father, who was an alcoholic.

"I did everything in my human power to get him to stop, and he just would never stop," he said, adding that he included the details on the album to help others struggling with the disease.

Despite all his success, the rapper doesn't anticipate growing old onstage. Instead, he wants to produce and do some behind the scenes work.

Fans can see Luda in theaters in Furious 7 now.
