Celebrities beware: MTV is bringing back its violent claymation show Celebrity Deathmatch. The series, which ran for six seasons, will air on MTV2. This is the second revival of the series -- it was canceled in 2002 and brought back a few years later before getting the ax again.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, creator Eric Fogel will be running the show, which has yet to receive a premiere date. The matchups in the new series are bound to be hilarious and possibly timely considering how many social media beefs there are nowadays.
Matches between musicians have previously included:
Spice Girls vs. Hanson
Liam Gallagher vs. Noel Gallagher
Mick Jagger vs. Steven Tyler
Garth Brooks vs. Marilyn Manson
Fiona Apple vs. John Popper
Elvis Presley vs. Jerry Garcia
Puff Daddy vs. Trent Reznor
Barbara Streisand vs. Aretha Franklin
Courtney Love vs. Brandy
Dave Grohl vs. Courtney Love
Kid Rock vs. Eminem
Ice Cube vs. Ice-T
Michael Jackson vs. Madonna
Looking back at 2014, there were plenty of matches that would have been worthy of an animated battle. Iggy Azalea could have fought Eminem, Snoop Dogg or Azealia Banks. Sun Kil Moon and The War on Drugs also could have squared off. And wouldn't it have been great to see Lil Wayne take on Birdman?
In addition to reviving Celebrity Deathmatch, MTV also picked up a talk show starring Charlamagne Tha God and a docuseries featuring Tyga. The former, titled Uncommon Sense, will feature a panel of comedians taking on social media topics of the week.
Kingin' with Tyga will follow the rapper and his friends as they attempt stunts to live the good life.
"After scoring our highest-rated quarter in history and continuing seven quarters of growth, MTV2 continues to outpunch its weight class," MTV2's Chris McCarthy said. "From the anticipated return of Celebrity Deathmatch to new hit MTV2's Joking Off and upcoming series with Tyga and Charlamagne, we'll continue to deliver content that drives record viewership."
