Word on the Web is Punk'd is making its official return to television. BET will revive the series with behind-the-scenes looks at celebrity pranks.
According to Rolling Stone, BET announced Thursday that it would revive Ashton Kutcher's MTV hoax show as part of the network's upcoming slate of new shows. This marks the second time the series was rebooted.
The Hollywood Reporter notes that the new version would be "tailored" for the BET audience and includes slightly different content. Instead of pranking unsuspecting celebrities, the series will look at how the celebrity pranks are conceptualized and carried through.
Maybe comedian Amy Schumer will make an appearance and give some insight on her recent prank on Kanye West and Kim Kardashian on the red carpet at the Time 100 Gala.
Punk'd's original run on MTV, hosted by Kutcher, aired from 2003 to 2007. MTV gave the show a brief return with a rotation of hosts including Justin Bieber, who pranked Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift.
No word on whether or not Kutcher will take parts in the new version.
BET also ordered a singing competition show called Chasing Destiny produced by Kelly Rowland as well as a Ludacris-produced docuseries titled The Label...a look at classic record labels. Brandy Norwood is slated for a sitcom as well.
MTV is looking to bring back some its own shows as well. As previously reported, MTV2 will air a revamped version of the Celebrity Deathmatch series, which has been off the air since 2007. The show will incorporate the new feud-happy world of social media.
