HBO has released their second teaser trailer for True Detective season 2 -- this time, taking the form of a minute-long, eerie clip. This season will follow-up the wildly popular first season starring off and on screen buddies Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, both of whom were Emmy Nominees based on their performances.
The crime drama will follow Vince Vaughn as Frank Semyon, a criminal turned business man who attempts to set himself straight but instead faces complications after learning of his business partners murder. Taylor Kitsch portrays a California Highway Patrol Vet who can't escape his haunting past while Rachel McAdams takes on a straight-laced detective unwilling to compromise her integrities.
"This girl's gone missing. Nobody cares. The interior's poisoned, and suddenly worth billions: nobody cares?" McAdams' character voices in the trailer.
The frequent romantic comedy actress is excited to step out of her comfort zone for a grittier role. "She doesn't really care what everyone thinks; she feels no responsibility for other people's feelings," McAdams told Marie Claire. "She's not trying to be charming, which isn't always the case with a leading lady.... Not that you want to be a horrendous character, just a little more human."
The vibe of the TV series seems to be just as morose as the first season and the characters a gloomy disposition, although the setting has jumped to Los Angeles, notes the New York Daily News. "My strong suspicion is we got the world we deserve," says Colin Farrell's Det. Ray Velcoro, feeding into his inner McConaughey with a glum attitude and disheveled mustache.
True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto has kept quiet about most details of the second season but the trailer divulges its main characters, "three police officers and a career criminal (who) must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder."
Season two will premiere on June 21 with the first two episodes directed by Justin Lim of "Fast & Furious."
