Arctic Monkeys are finally hitting it big in America. Eight years after its debut album Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not dropped, the English alt-rockers are finally storming the states, with a No. 1 Alternative Songs single ("Do I Wanna Know") and a sold-out North American tour... and it seems like the band's success may have come from Tumblr.
According to The Guardian, Arctic Monkeys have had unprecedented success on the micro-blogging site, piquing the interest of many, including Nate Auerbach (Tumblr's resident "music evangelist" in charge of the social networking site's music strategy and artist outreach).
Auerbach noted that Arctic Monkeys are even more popular on Tumblr than Lady Gaga, notching up 57,000 posts over a 30 day period. Likening Tumblr's media platform to The Ed Sullivan Show, Auerbach said that the cover art for the band's latest album AM and the music video for "Do I Wanna Know" spread across the site like wildfire.
From a quick glance at the Arctic Monkeys tag on Tumblr reveals familiar fare from any tag on the site: there's lyrics to the band's songs, plenty of .gifs and photos and plenty of music.
The only difference is the sheer volume of it.
Must be a good time to be an Arctic Monkey.
