It seems as though Naughty Boy was just as taken aback by Zayn Malik's malicious comments on Twitter as fans were. Last week, the former One Direction singer took to Twitter to call his former best friend and frequent collaborator out after he seemingly leaked a video of his "No Type" cover. After the shocking "fat joke" comments, now Naughty Boy is speaking out about the new feud between himself and Malik.
In an interview with The Sun, Naughty Boy (real name: Shahid Khan) revealed that he at first thought that Malik's Twitter had been hacked last week when he was attacked on the social media site, saying it sounded like something one of his trolls would say.
"It sounded like one of the things the little girls who send me hate would say," he said, before getting into the deeper implications of the body shaming for Malik's many fans.
"I can deal with what he said but he knows the hate I've had to endure for him is the bit that upset me. That's not how I know Zayn to speak, even face to face. I definitely thought at first that he had been hacked. The fat joke thing wasn't necessary and he's getting a lot of backlash for that because a lot of his fans don't look like Selena Gomez. At some point as an artist you have to take responsibility for everything you say. That's why I think Zayn did it out of anger."
The anger stems from a leaked video of Malik's Rae Sremmurd cover, though Naughty Boy claims he has nothing to do with the leaked footage. He also dismissed that Malik's comments, which still remain on his Twitter, as having greater implications. According to him, artists such as Malik often act on impulse.
"Forget what I've been through, you do have to remember what this guy has been through these last few months and had to deal with," he said. "I understand why he could be over-reacting on things and just jumping to conclusions. He is still a young guy who has gone through a lot and I am always going to be there for this guy. I'm pretty sure that inside he feels the same. Creative people often act on impulse and we don't always think things through."
For Malik's part, he has remained quiet on the brewing tensions between himself and Naughty Boy.
