Eric Prydz has released his new single "Opus." First premiered at EDC Las Vegas about a month ago, the track has generated a ton of buzz online and despite the calculated strategy by Prydz and his team to release three PRYDA 10 EPs and then an album, they had to unleash this one as a stand alone single.
"Opus" has already been dubbed "the biggest thing Pryda has ever done" by some of his peers. The word itself means a musical composition, generally attributed to a great composer, which the world of electronic music would consider Eric Prydz.
Prydz draws you in to his clutches as the track methodically builds with mystical and haunting notes before slowly speeding up into the eventual climax nearly four minutes later as strings are added, a crisp and clean kick drum adds power next to a driving sub bass and risers.
Prydz adds new elements over the lengthy crescendo, before taking them out one by one and slowing down the pace of the synths and eases the listener down until there is the faint echo of Prydz's masterful production saying "replay."
As dance music has gone pop in the United States with more artists shooting for radio play, songs have gotten shorter and shorter with consumers and artists looking for quick bursts of satisfaction. "Opus" flies right in the face of that with a full nine minutes.
