When Big Machine Records announced plans to release a country tribute album to Motley Crue, last month, fans of the hard rockers were surprised and maybe a bit confused. Turns out that Vince Neil was just as confused at first. Vince told The Tennessean, "I was like, 'Eh, I don’t know. Let me think about this one for a minute. The more I thought about it, the cooler it got, especially after Carrie Underwood did 'Home Sweet Home,' and that was so good. I’m thinking to myself, ‘How cool would it be to hear these other acts' renditions of the songs?’"
So far, Brantley Gilbert, Cassadee Pope, Eli Young Band, Florida Georgia Line, Justin Moore and Rascal Flatts and have all signed on to be a part of the project. Big Machine head Scott Borchetta also shared with Billboard magazine that LeAnn Rimes may be in because she "has a great idea for one of their biggest hits. It will shock people." Underwood’s 2009 cover won’t be included on the tribute CD, but is available on iTunes.
The how of the songs will be up to the artists that are covering them. "I want them all to strip down the songs to just the acoustic guitar and then rebuild them with their own vision,” Borchetta said. “The songs are that good, they can stand up to that kind of treatment."
As for Neil, he's completely on board with the project now and even a little excited. He shared, "It’s fun because my girlfriend is a country girl. She’s a barrel rider in the rodeo. When I showed her the names, she was like, 'Oh my God. Oh my God. Oh my God.' I’m like, 'Tell me, tell me. Fill me in.'"
