YACHT Shares Details on Forthcoming LP 'I Thought The Future Would Be Cooler'

Electro-pop duo, YACHT, released details outlining their forthcoming LP titled I Thought the Future Would Be Cooler via Buzzfeed. The "tracklisticle" appears on the website as "11 Ways We Thought The Future Would Be Cooler," coupling each track of the album with appropriately curated gifs. The left coast based outfit prefaced the track list with the following statement in their BuzzFeed post: "We are the band YACHT. This is the tracklisticle for our new album, I Thought The Future Would Be Cooler... it's 2015 and the album is dead, the novel is dead, but the GIF loops forever. ♥ ♫"

Each track slotted to appear on what will be their fifth studio album is accompanied with a brief, yet poignant commentary further illustrating the ways in with the future lacks the cool factor that yacht and many others anticipated. Much of the supplemental material that accompanies the eye-catching gifs in the band's tracklisticle are deeply relevant in a nearly alarming way. The briefly expository statement that describes "White Mirror" is a prime example: "Our species has never quite been able to stop itself from grabbing technology, turning it around, and using it as a mirror. Only now the mirror is everything: we are surrounded by representations and reflections of ourselves, avatars, profiles, front-facing cameras. Identity is weird."

Thematically befitting the album's original announcement back in July via video footage of a billboard captured by a drone, the tentative track listing for I Thought The Future Would Be Cooler (and its presentation) is appropriately postmodern. The two-piece's LP is scheduled to drop this fall via Downtown Records.
