Review: Seven Lions Shares 'Falling Away' Featuring Lights

Seven Lions, real name John Montalvo, has shared his new single, "Falling Away," featuring the vocals of Canadian singer, songwriter Lights. The single is taken from a forthcoming EP the American producer will be releasing on Casablanca Records later in the year.

This single is softer and more progressive than what fans have grown accustomed to hearing from Seven Lions. He created a niche with dubstep that relied heavily on melody instead of jarring bass drops.

Dubstep and gritty bass lines are left behind by Seven Lions as he goes for a conventional four on the floor house beat that anchors soft pads and plucks that sound like one of the songs he is normally asked to remix. Lights' vocals soar over the instrumental and unlike many EDM tracks, are integral to the entire tune. Listen to the song below on Soundcloud and purchase it on iTunes.

Seven Lions has become more accustomed to working in 128 bpms and outside of his traditional comfort zone with tracks on "Strangers" with Myon & Shane 54 & Tove Lo, as well as "Serpent Of Old," which drew on some moombahtoon influences for the bass line.

The upcoming EP will be Montalvo's first major project since his The Throes Of Winter EP was released at the beginning of 2015. Lions does not release music often, but he is always looking to keep a high level of quality with each release.

The producer/DJ has been busy touring extensively this year and that will continue during the ending months of the summer and into the fall. Among those on his schedule includes a gig at Life In Color at RFK Stadium on Sept. 12, a date at TomorrowWorld on Sept. 26 and a set at Escape Halloween this year in Los Angeles. Head to his website for complete details.
