On her personal, unverified Instagram account, this week Pink commented that the VMAs not only made her sad and embarrassed but also made her feel "old." Per blog OhNoTheyDidnt, Pink wrote, "But in all seriousness; I felt sad [about the VMAs] because music is supposed to inspire. It saved my life. This trash won't save any kids life. In a world that is even scarier and with lives still worth saving, who will stand up and have soul?"
Pink also noted that she felt "disenfranchised" and let down by her peers in the industry (though she noted that Macklemore, Pharrell, Justin Bieber and Tori Kelly all delivered at the VMAs).
After her comments made the rounds on the Internet, Lovato, who performed a sexually charged take on her new Confident single "Cool for the Summer" defended herself against Pink on Twitter.
Cool For The Summer may not "save kid's lives" or "inspire" but I'd say Skyscraper & Warrior have done a pretty good job of helping people

cope with mental illness. VMA's are sexy and fun. There's a time and place for everything. — Demi Lovato (@ddlovato) September 4, 2015
I'm excited for you all to hear the inspirational/honest/soulful songs on this album. #Lionheart #Father #StoneCold #Confident... Oct. 16!!

But then, Pink insisted that she wasn't even talking about Lovato because she forgot she performed in the first place. Pink then went on to defend her initial thoughts on the VMAs.
Please look for a feud elsewhere. I have no issue with Demi Lovato or anyone else. I actually forgot she performed. I have opinions. MANY — P!nk (@Pink) September 4, 2015
I stand by what I said. However, I didn't intend for the angry people of the world to latch on and make it into something it isn't. Peace
