HBO is building up its star-studded cast for a currently untitled series about the music industry in 1970s New York City. The drama is being created by Boardwalk Empire's Martin Scorsese and Terence Winter and the Rolling Stones' Mick Jagger. Now, actress Olivia Wilde has signed on as one of the main roles opposite Bobby Cannavale.
As Deadline notes, the show has been in the works with HBO since 2010 but still doesn't have a formal green light. However, the hour-long pilot is scheduled for production in early summer 2014 with Scorsese directing. The show is co-written by Winter and George Mastras and takes place in 1970s New York when punk and disco were emerging onto the music scene. The series explores the sex- and drug-fueled music business through the eyes of Richie Finestra (Cannavale) who is trying to put his label back together and find the next big thing.
As Deadline explains: "Richie is undergoing a crisis of character when confronted with a life-altering decision." His wife, Devon Finestra (Wilde), is a former actress/model who lived a Bohemian life in1960s New York. After her husband's mid-life crisis puts a strain on their family, she returns to that lifestyle.
The show marks Wilde's return to television. She rose to stardom on Fox's House and has since been busy working on features.
