Last week Kanye West's Yeezy season 2 show at New York Fashion Week was a rumor, this week it is true. However, not everyone is happy with West's announcement for his last minute runway show; it turns out the "All Day" rapper/fashion designer
WWD is reporting that the surprise fashion show is disrupting two designers' slots. Anne Bowen and Naeem Khan both have scheduled slots to launch their collections at the same time as West. Khan will be keeping his time the same, since he is launching an eveningwear collection and does not see it as competitive to West's. Bowen, unfortunately is not as lucky and was set to launch her streetwear collection at that time slot. The conflict for Bowen is that they have similar lines launching. Bowen recently spoke to WWD about the issue she is having rescheduling.
"We have been prepping for a year for this at considerable financial, labor - and commitment - cost to our company. Our show date has been scheduled for months and has been on the Fashion Calendar for weeks. We went through all the proper channels to make this a reality. And just yesterday we learned that Kanye West is having a show at the same time on the same date as ours," she said.
"Kanye knows he is a media sensation and it is just not ethical to do this. It's like we are David and he is Goliath. We have put our heart and soul into our show and should not be stepped on like this."
Due to this issue Bowen had to change her show to Thursday, Sept. 17, at 12:30 p.m. at the same location, Tao at 92 Ninth Ave. Bowen is trying to secure the same photographers and models while dealing with cancellation fees.
Bowen said, "We're scrambling like crazy and it's costing us a lot of money."
Bowen's publicist spoke on how this is also making them resend hand written invitations which isn't the best and scrambling to email everyone about the new date of Bowen's show.
Bowen has listed a complaint with the CFDA Fashion Calendar. Steven Kolb, president of the CFDA, said that West never announced his show on the calendar.
"The first I heard about the Kanye show was what I read in the Post," said Kolb. "There was no listing on the Fashion Calendar, and we didn't know about it. We can't avoid conflicts unless we know someone's doing it."
