Drake and Future have made good on their word, releasing their highly anticipated joint mixtape What a Time to Be Alive.
The tape made its big Internet debut during this week's episode of OVO Sound Radio. During the two-hour slot via Beats 1 and iTunes, WATTBA played twice with a brief introduction by Drake. Future also popped in to say a few words before the tape spun the second time.
On Saturday (Sept. 19), Drake shared the project's artwork and title on Instagram after announcing WATTBA would drop on Sunday during his set at the Music Midtown Festival. "Sunday will be madness," he told the crowd. His statement has apparently rung true. Throughout the tape's stream, #WATTBA and the two rapper's names were trending on Twitter in several major cities including Future's hometown, Atlanta.
As previously reported, it was DJ Skee who initially hinted at the project when he sent out a tweet suggesting that two of the hottest artists in the hip-hop game were coming together to drop a collaborative project out of nowhere. After much speculation and even a little bit of trolling, things have actually come to fruition.
In addition to his project with Future, fans of Drake have also been anticipating his Views From The 6 album. No word on when to expect its release, but the fact that Drizzy mentioned the project during his recent performance may mean it's coming sooner than later. In the middle of his performance, Drizzy reportedly told the crowd, "take a break from Views now it's back to that, and me and Future got a tape before that."
The "Percocet & Stripper Joint" rapper is also looking to release more solo work. While wrapping his performance at the 2015 Made In America festival, Future announced his plans to release another album this year on the heels of his highly successful DS2. The new album would also follow Future's impressive mixtape output consisting of Monster, 56 Nights and Beast Mode.
