Following reports of possibly being banned from performing in Australia, Chris Brown is attempting to win over authorities Down Under by offering to raise awareness on domestic violence in exchange for entry into the continent.
In a slew of tweets the "Zero" singer made it clear that he wants to use his past, particularly his infamous assault incident with Rihanna in 2009, to educate the youth.
“I would be more than grateful to come to Australia to raise awareness about domestic violence.Im not the pink elephant in the room anymore,” he said via his social media account.
Brown has apparently taken the advice of Wendy Williams, who made the suggestion during the Hot Topics segment of her talk show last week. Williams said that she did not support Brown being banned and gave a few recommedations, including donating a portion of his performance proceeds to domestic violence in Australia and delivering a public service announcement on the issue.
However, Williams' sentiments have not been agreed upon across the board. The newly appointed women's minister of Australia, Michaelia Cash, clearly feels strongly about Brown's reputation, saying, "People need to understand if you are going to commit domestic violence and then you want to travel around the world, there are going to be countries that say to you, 'You cannot come in because you are not of the character we expect in Australia,' and certainly, without pre-empting the decision of the minister, I can assure you that it is something that the minister is looking at." Cash made her statement, which was released on video to The Guardian.
Brown was issued a Notice of Intention to Consider Refusal, which gives him 28 days to make his case for entry into the country. Australia initially denied Brown’s visa for a planned four-date tour in December.
Aside from his legal troubles, recently released a nine-minute video for "Liquor" and his new single "Zero." Last month, he shared plans to name the project after his daughter, Royalty. The album will be Brown's second project for 2015, following a collaborative album Fan of a Fan back in February with Tyga. Brown's seventh studio effort is slated to be released this fall.
This summer, he hit the road for his One Hell of a Nite tour with special guests Kid Ink, Omarion, Fetty Wap and Teyana Taylor. The tour served as Brown’s second major trek of the year, following his joint run with Trey Songz for Between The Sheets.
