Empire actress Ta'Rhonda Jones is known for making viewers laugh as Porscha Taylor on Wednesday night. But, in a recent interview on Conan, Cookie's assistant told a pretty humorous story on the origin of her name. The story involves her mother and two men believed to be her father(s).
Jones recently sat down with Conan O'Brien for an up close and personal interview. The loyal assistant of Cookie Lyon's may have a common name on the show, as Porscha Taylor but, her birth name, Ta'Rhonda, is one that O'Brien is not too familiar with. During the interview the talk show host explained how he's "never met a Ta'Rhonda before" and asked the actress how her parents came up with her name.
"My mother was dating two men at the same time, Tyrone and Ronny," the actress explained. She went on to tell how all of her siblings' names begin with the letter "T" and her mother, being a little confused as to who her father may be, felt it best to name her after both men. She explained how her mother "pimped" both men into making sure she received everything she needed and wanted out of both of them like "book bags," but as it turned out, neither of the men were actually her father, who she later found out was a man named Derrick.
Jones has worked on previous tv shows like Chicago PD and The Meredith Vieira Show but, as indicated by Vulture, her most current character as Porscha is notably her breakout role and she has become quite the "scene-stealer" when featured in various episodes. Much like her co-star, Bryshere Gray, Jones is also a music artist and according to E Online, she was in the process of pursuing a music career with a certain music label when she found herself at the audition for the show.
According to E, Jones was in between jobs and decided to go to an audition for Empire, which she thought was co-star Terrance Howard's record label, not a TV show. "I was like, 'What? Where's Terrence Howard? I'm trying to get on his label," she said at the Empire season two premiere event according to the site. "I didn't know what was going on...I'm telling y'all, I didn't know nothing."
The actress had reportedly been offered a job at a hospital and the role on the hit Wednesday night show at the same time. Her decision - well you can watch more of her Fox Wednesday nights at 9 p.m.
