Ed Sheeran Co-Wrote 'Thinking Out Loud' to Help a Friend Pay Her Mortgage

Making fans around the world fall In love with him a little more, Ed Sheeran recently revealed that he wrote "Thinking Out Loud" with a childhood friend in order to help her pay off her mortgage and other heavy financial issues.

Sheeran, who co-hosted the MTV EMA's alongside Orange is the New Black's Ruby Rose, co-penned the wildly successful track, in order to assist long-time friend and fellow singer, Amy Wadge. The X track has reached number one, reeled in over half a billion streams on Spotify and sold over 1,000,000 copies in the U.K. since its initial release last year.

"[Wadge] was going through financial troubles about a year ago," Sheeran told The Mirror. "She drove to my house - my album was nearly done - and she asked if I could put a song from when I was 17 on the deluxe album, so she could get a little bit of money and pay the mortgage and bills and stuff." He continued to say, "While she was there, we wrote 'Thinking Out Loud.' Now she never has to worry about money again."

It seems the childhood friend picked a great song to collaborate on as "Thinking Out Loud" has gone platinum three times in the U.K. and is the most popular wedding song of 2015, E! notes. Sheeran still gets nearly fix or six messages a day concerning the song's use for multiple weddings.

The 24-year-old singer explained that now Wadge is back on her feet and able to enjoy going on vacations with her family and two children. "I'm not going to lie and say things hadn't got financially difficult. My publishing advance had run out and I wasn't seeing my family at all," Wadge said, according to The Mirror. Now, Madge spends her time writing for Ben Haenow and Geri Horner (formerly Halliwell) of the Spice Girls.

Sheeran recently premiered his Wembley Stadium-centered concert film, Jumpers for Goalposts, for a limited theatrical run on the weekend of Oct. 23.
