5 Seconds of Summer Take Over 'TODAY': Five Things You Didn't See on TV

5 Seconds of Summer: She's Kinda Hot

5 Seconds of Summer: Hey, Everybody!

Music Times was on the scene, and here are five things that you did not see on TV. Spoiler alert: there was plenty of bonus music and even a little candy.

1. There's a lot of waiting, but fans kept themselves entertained.

5SOS' set on The Today Show didn't start until about 7:30 a.m., but some fans had been awake and waiting in Rockefeller Plaza since 2 a.m., fighting off the cold and the rain like real champions. So, as you wait for hours on end to see your favorite band? What do you do? Singalongs, of course! Sometimes prompted by stagehands and sometimes prompted by the 5SOS Fam themselves, breakouts of "She Looks So Perfect" could be heard resonating throughout the audience long before the band hit the stage.

2. The recording process is very start-and-go, and 5SOS didn't want to leave the stage.

After opening up the show with a loud and well-received performance of their breakout hit "She Looks So Perfect," 5 Seconds of Summer, it was time for a few other segments on The Today Show. So, instead of just hanging out on stage, 5SOS were told to leave. But that doesn't mean the band necessarily wanted to. "Should we get offstage? Aww," Michael Clifford said after their opening performance, but not before complimenting the crowd's Today provided orange and blue beanies.

3. Michael Clifford may or may not become a singer-songwriter...

Before launching into the heartbreaking 5 Seconds of Summer track "Amnesia," Michael appeared on stage just slightly before the rest of his band. Though he was notably a little awkward without Ashton, Calum and Luke, he played a few bars on his acoustic guitar and announced that he may or may not leave 5 Seconds of Summer to become a singer-songwriter. It's OK though, 5SOS Fam, he was just joking.

4. So. Much. Free. Stuff!

Not only is the Citi Concert Series on TODAY a free show for fans in New York City (and free on TV if you have an antenna), there are plenty of giveaways if you're in Rockefeller Plaza. Hours before the show again, people from NBC were handing out beanies to help warm fans up on the chilly fall morning, and there were also exclusive show posters to go around for anyone lucky enough to grab one. The best free item though? A Snickers bar, thrown straight into the crowd by host Matt Lauer and caught by someone with pretty good hand eye coordination. Seriously, Lauer was impressed.

5. No surprise, but 5 Seconds of Summer can jam.

Between sets, after 5 Seconds of Summer refused to leave the stage again, there was an impromptu jam session. Michael and Calum first started joking about becoming a comedy duo, but when their tired state affected their ability to laugh, they just did what they did best: play music. They kicked things off with a spot-on take on "Sweet Child Of Mine," and eventually their other bandmates joined in as they sang along with goofy voices to the Guns N Roses classic. Calum was Slash and everything was right with the world. For good measure, they also threw in a little AC/DC.
