Drake to take love of basketball, comedy to ESPYS in July on ESPN

Started from the bottom, now he's at the ESPYs. Seemingly thanks to his Saturday Night Live hosting gig and his love of basketball, rap star Drake has been deemed the host of the 2014 ESPYs.

The "Hold On, We're Going Home" musician made the big announcement on his official Twitter account, with the help of a little Photoshop on his Nothing Was The Same album cover.

"Honored to be this year's @ESPYS host @espn 7.16.2014 #ESPYS #NWTS," he wrote alongside his head in the clouds, looking not at a childhood version of himself, but at a giant golf ball with "ESPY" engraved on it.

The inclusion of Drake at the ESPYS, as noted above, should come as no surprise. In addition to being a rapper, Drake is notably comfortable on camera. As a tween, he appeared under his birth name Aubrey Graham as Jimmy on the Canadian soap opera Degrassi: The Next Generation. He also hosted (and performed) on SNL this season, giving one of this year's most celebrated turns on the sketch comedy show.

Drake is also a noted basketball fanatic. He was named the official ambassador of the Toronto Raptors late last year.

The 2014 ESPYS, hosted by Drake, will take place on July 16.
