Katy Perry teased that "Birthday" would be her most "insane" music video to date, and boy, was she right. Today (April 24), she released the official eight-minute clip for her fourth Prism single, and it showed that she's a party crasher for the ages.
According to the music video, Perry dressed in disguise and appeared at five separate birthday parties over the last month. As promoted in the "Birthday" teaser video, she went to these shindigs as terrible entertainers -- an aged exotic dancer, a drunken clown, a super cheesy Jewish comedian, an inept animal trainer and a careless vapid princess.
The situations play at out their respective parties. There's massive confusion at a nursing home, complete with some fake legs in the mix, plenty of offended Jewish grandpas, a near car accident, lots of poop and some really bad face painting jobs.
Attempting to watch Perry do things out of her typical pop star element is fascinating; as she totally messes up every party she attends. Her spin at comedy is basically what you'd expect from a singer who used to be married to a comedian -- totally ridiculous and obvious but amusing for a super-sized music video.
In the end, Perry turns things around at these parties, presumably by revealing who she actually is. She makes the transition completely obvious at the princess party, removing her wig and mask to show her true self. There are a lot of squeals, and watching Perry dance and take photos with a bunch of her littlest fans is truly endearing.
Even if she did crash and ruin a few special days along the way...
