As was widely speculated, hard drugs were found on Scott Weiland's tour bus and cocaine was in his personal bedroom. The Minnesota police did a thorough search of the premises shortly after the Velvet Revolver and Stone Temple Pilots singer died and found the controlled substances throughout the vehicle. According to Rolling Stone, cocaine was found in Tommy Black of the Wildabouts' section of the bus and the bassist was promptly arrested for possession of a controlled substance. Black is currently awaiting the pending charges at the Bloomingdales Police Department station. In addition to a gig with the Wildabouts, Black is also the current manager at the Los Angeles Viper Room.
While limited information about Weiland's death is available at this time, this is a break in the case that was foreseeable given the singer's long documented struggle with drug addiction. The news of his death was first released in a tweet from guitarist Dave Navarro of Jane's Addiction, which has since been deleted and was confirmed shortly thereafter on Weiland's official Facebook page.
As reported by TMZ, their band was supposed to play a gig in Hamel, Minnesota the night that Weiland was found unresponsive. At the time of his death, Weiland was playing solo material under the name of Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts, who were on tour to promote their album, Blaster, released in 2014.
Weiland was known to struggle with addiction and was twice arrested on drug related charges. The first was in 1995 before he left the Stone Temple Pilots for purchasing crack cocaine. He was arrested again in 2007 for driving under the influence. At the time of his death, Weiland was additionally in the middle of a bitter legal battle with his former bandmates over music rights. Due to his death, it remains to be seen how the legalities over music rights will resolve itself.
