Deadmau5 Apologizes To Fans "Sorry For Being A Dick," Reveals Depression Battle

That was quick. Just a few days after Deadmau5 quit social media in a fit, calling his fans on social media just a bunch of numbers and saying he would return to the platforms in 2017, Zimmerman is back on all of his beloved networks. In addition to the return, he shared why he quit in such hurry and it shouldn't be too surprising for many who have followed him over the years that mau5 is battling with depression.

Writing on his tumblr page, deadmau5 explained, "Like many other human beings, I've been dealing with some depressions issues." He continued "I'd consider myself far from emotionally stable, though not unstable enough to know support when I see it."

He also apologized "for being such a dick" and promised to be back in the studio making music after taking some vacation with friends and family over the next month to recharge.

It takes courage to admit one's faults to millions of people, so we commend mau5 for that and hope he gets the treatment that he needs to overcome this illness.

The linkage between musicians and depression has been well documented. A recent study suggested that nearly 60 percent of touring musicians suffered from depression at one point. While another study put artists as the fifth most likely profession to be depressed.

Artists like Ian Curtis, Ray Davies, Lady Gaga, Wale, Robyn and many other have all admitted to having bouts of depression.

On a more humorous note, at 3.33 million followers, deadmau5 is probably the most followed Twitter account without a blue check. That will probably change in the next few days, but for now enjoy seeing him as most likely most followed unverified account.

Hopefully now that he is back on social media, the feuds will be kept to a minimum and he can stick with music, but that is probably a pipe dream.
