NGHTMRE Takes On Teen Smoking With New Truth Initiative Collaboration ‘It’s A Trap’ [LISTEN]

NGHTMRE has teamed up with truth, the influential anti-smoking and anti-tobacco campaign sponsored by the Truth Initiative, to take on the issue of teen smoking. The result of the collaboration is the producer's new track "It's a Trap," pun totally intended.

The new health-focused trap banger features fan-submitted lyrics, Your EDM reports. Late last fall the producer had called on listeners to comment on his social media posts announcing the collaboration with the most absurd excuses for smoking they had ever heard. The result is a festival-worthy track with a conscious. Listen below via Mad Decent's SoundCloud.

In his initial call for lyrics, NGHTMRE had mentioned that a few of his loved ones had died before their time due to lung cancer caused by smoking. The producer's first-hand experience with the harsh reality of tobacco use explains at least in part the impetus behind the collaboration.

As anyone who has seen NGHTMRE (or any other trap-styled EDM artist) live can attest, the producer is definitely not preaching to the choir on this one: wafts of cigarette smoke waft above the crowds more often than not. It's therefore worth mentioning that, according to the truth campaign website, the collaboration is not aimed to judge smokers but instead empower everyone with the facts and statistics that go along with teen smoking; namely, the whole culture that surrounds cigarette smoking and tobacco use is an industry trap.

The track is an extension of a video by the same title that was launched at the 2015 MTV VMAs. The video adopts a lighthearted tone concerning the subject matter and features memes and attempted to muster up some LOLs while debunking the myriad myths that surround the decades-long epidemic of social smoking among adolescents. Watch the video below.

Since kicking-off the truth campaign collaboration last year, the producer has been busy between the studio and touring. As EDM Tunes reports, he has a number of collaborations currently in the works and a new EP coming out soon.

Early Saturday afternoon the producer took to Facebook to let fans know that the aforementioned forthcoming EP is "almost here." He shared a Snapchat screenshot of six tracks presumably intended for the EP, which you can check out below.
