Odesza have been quiet lately it appears as though we now know why. They have been up to something. The Seattle based duo just released the music video for their In Return song "If Only" featuring the vocals of Zyra.
The video is a smattering of various situations and scenes from across history, taking the viewer from when humans were nomads all the way to the present.
The video starts out with a couple in furs settling in for a night of sleep next to a fire outdoors. It then slowly advances throughout history with each scene matching the various sections of the hooks sung by Zyra. There is love, there is war and discovery. It is a snapshot of the human experience and director Dan Brown's interpretation of human nature.
"It's only water / Its only fire / its only blood/ It's only slaughter / We're only liars / It's only blood / They're only thoughts that / I'm having thoughts safe within my head / You're only crying / You're only dying / You're only dead."
Despite not releasing much original material in 2015, Odesza was able to grow tremendously selling out shows all over the world and become a top-flight festival act for the 2016 summer season. They re-released their breakout second album In Return in a deluxe edition that included a new single "Light" with Little Dragon and instrumentals of all of the tracks.
The pair have not released many music videos and the choice of "It's Only" was interesting since it hasn't been the biggest track from the LP, but it could be part of a new push for the song.
