Susan Sarandon Honors David Bowie During Screen Actors Guild Awards [WATCH]

During the Screen Actors Guild Awards, Susan Sarandon introduced the "in memoriam" segment of the event, which included a special tribute to David Bowie and included Alan Rickman and Leonard Nimoy.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show actress offered the audience touching words about her "dear friend David Bowie," with whom she appeared in The Hunger.

"All clichés are true," she said. "The years really do speed by. Life really is as short as they tell you it is. Those words resonate when we've lost someone who made a special impact on us," the 69-year-old actress continued.

In 2014 Sarandon admitted to The Daily Beast that she and Bowie were once romantically involved.

"He's worth idolizing," The Dead Man Walking actress said. "He's extraordinary."

The "Space Oddity" singer died of liver cancer in early January. He was cremated privately and requested that his ashes be spread in Bali.

The 2016 SAG awards have been praised for their open diversity, with many black actors taking home awards, in contrast to the Oscars, which have been criticized for their lack of diversity in nominations.
