While anticipation for J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar’s joint album has been mounting, the 2014 Forest Hills Drive rapper may also have something else in the works for fans this summer. Word on Web is Cole is slated to tour with Drake later this year. Ebro Darden hinted at the rumored announcement on his Hot 97 radio show.
On Monday (Feb. 1) morning's episode of Ebro in the Morning, Darden revealed a rumor he heard about the two rappers and noted that an announcement regarding the tour will be made later this week.
“I heard that there’s going to be an announcement this week of a Drake and J. Cole summer tour,” he said. Darden, who, like Drake, has a show on Apple Music’s Beats 1 Radio, went on to commend the Toronto rapper for his seemingly unstoppable work ethic.
This forthcoming summer is shaping up to be an epic one for the “Back to Back” rhymer and it’s safe to say that he issued a fair warning with his most recent release, “Summer Sixteen.” The track premiered on Drizzy’s OVO Sound Radio show this past weekend. Following the track’s debut, Drake announced that his highly anticipated album, Views From The 6, will be released on April 16.
As far as the tour, Drake and Cole have a history of joining forces on stage. Back in 2012, the “Wet Dreamz” rapper appeared on Drake’s Club Paradise tour. He also rocked the crowd with a slew of other surprise guests during OVO Fest, which was held in Drake’s hometown, in 2014. More recently, Drizzy returned the favor and performed during Cole’s homecoming show in Fayetteville, NC as a part of his Forest Hills Drive tour. The performance was featured in the HBO special of the show.
Aside from a tour announcement, fans can also expect new material from Cole, presumably featuring Kendrick Lamar. Back in November, the two rapped over each other’s instrumentals with Cole taking on K Dot’s “Alright.”
“This February, bet sh*t get scary when I f*ck around and drop,” he rhymed over the Grammy-nominated track.
