‘Frozen’ Songwriting Team Begin Work on New Show

The husband and wife writing team of Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez – mostly known as the Academy Award winning team behind Disney's uber successful film Frozen – are gearing up to write a romantic comedy musical.

Some information on the play's story has been released. It's been reported that it will be about falling in love and "moving past ourselves – and those little voices in our head – to find happiness." Together, the couple wrote the story, the songs and lyrics and have even had a couple of table reads in there as well.

Producer Scott Sanders, of the Tony nominated "After Midnight" and recent "Pee-wee Herman Show" fame, recently said, "As you can imagine with the Lopezes, it is witty, it is wicked smart, it is irreverent, and it's youthful in its energy. It will appeal to a broad audience but it certainly will be something that even Millennials will relate to."

The now unnamed Lopez play is said to be part of the La Jolla Playhouse 2015-16 season and will be directed by Tony Award nominee Alex Timbers. Timbers, who directed the current Broadway play "Rocky," is believed by Sanders to be the perfect choice to direct the new musical, saying, "Some of the characters are written in one of the protagonist's imagination and it's going to allow for some creative staging – so, of course, nobody's better at that than Alex Timbers."
