Well, it seems as though the unfortunate, inevitable thing has happened: after postponing and cancelling four shows on hit 2014 tour, Morrissey has just scrapped his entire North American jaunt.
The former Smiths frontman/current World Peace is None of Your Business singer made the announcement in a message on his official Facebook page last night (June 10), citing ongoing health issues.
"It is with great sadness that the remainder of the US Tour has been cancelled. The respiratory infection Morrissey contracted in Miami has worsened, and in the interest of making a full recovery, all further touring plans have been halted," the statement said. "Morrissey thanks his fans for their compassion, understanding, and well-wishes during this difficult period as he recuperates."
According to a semi-official Morrissey site, True To You (via SPIN), Moz is blaming his viral infection on his frequent tour opener Kristeen Young, who denies the accusations, yet was still asked to leave the tour.
"On Saturday, June 7th, following the show at Boston Opera House, Morrissey collapsed and was rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital where doctors treated Morrissey for 'acute fever.' Difficulties had arisen on May 31st following Kristeen Young's opening set at the Miami Knight Concert Hall, after which Kristeen confessed to "a horrendous cold", the symptoms of which were passed on to Morrissey resulting in the cancellation of the next show in Atlanta," the site reported.
Truly bizarre.
The cancellation of Morrissey's 2014 U.S. tour isn't the first time he completely dumped a set of dates. His 2013 tour was completely cancelled as well, after a series of "medical mishaps."
