Former Rolling Stones bassist and The Rhythm Kings frontman Bill Wyman has announced that he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. On Tuesday (March 8), the legendary musician revealed that, luckily, he caught the disease early and expects to make a full recovery.
Wyman and his family first made the tragic announcement on his official Twitter account, announcing that he is expected to overcome the prostate cancer. The family and The Rolling Stones echoed that sentiment in a statement to Rolling Stone.
"Bill Wyman, former member of the Rolling Stones, has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. He is undergoing treatment and is expected to make a full recovery as it was caught in the early stages," a representative for the Rolling Stones said in a statement. "The Wyman family has asked for their privacy during this time. No further comment will be made at this point."
Wyman was the Rolling Stones' bassist from 1962 to 1993 and thus was with the band for some of its most integral recordings including their debut The Rolling Stones as well as Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers, It's Only Rock N Roll and Tattoo You.
After leaving the band in 1993, Wyman formed The Rhythm Kings, which released five albums. Their last LP, Just for a Thrill, was released in 2004. Wyman has also released five solo albums, including 2015's Back to Basics.
Let's all hope for a speedy recovery for Wyman!
