We've seen covers of the track "Let It Go" from Disney's Frozen all over the Internet, but this is one cover we weren't expecting. Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder gave his own take of the ubiquitous song as part of an extended version of the band's own song "Daughter" during their set on Friday at Stadio San Siro in Milan, Italy.
Originally recorded by Broadway singer Idina Menzel, who voiced Queen Elsa in the animated movie, "Let It Go" peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was the first song from a Disney animated musical to reach the top ten since 1995. The song also won the Oscar for Best Original Song at the 86th Academy Awards. The film itself has become the highest-grossing animated movie and the fifth highest-grossing film of all time.
Vedder is the father of two young girls, both under the age of 10, so we have a hunch he slipped in the "Let It Go" cover as a nod to his daughters during the song "Daughters."
He strains to reach the higher notes in the chorus, but his imperfections make the song that much more poignant. The story in the song "Daughter" also mirrors the themes in the movie Frozen.
Check out fan footage of the performance below ("Daughter" starts at the 3:35 mark with "Let It Go" at 8:10), and let us know what you think in the comments section!
