The Powerpuff Girls is making a comeback on Cartoon Network and Charli XCX is one of the voices behind the launch. The show ended a decade ago, but is returning to the network and will feature a new theme song written by Tacocat. XCX sang her praises from the rooftops, and gave an interview about her feelings on the show and the adventures of the characters.
“I remember when I was 15 and having all kinds of crazy things going on in my brain,” XCX said, as reported by NME. “As a young girl, that age can be a time of self-doubt, a time where you let your insecurities show, a time where you’re basically just a bit unsure.”
“Strong role models are super important during those phases of anyone’s life,” she further said. “The Powerpuff Girls are 100% the strongest and coolest kind of role models to have around. The show flips gender stereotypes on its head and is accessible and fun for kids but also for people my age.”
XCX claimed that while she enjoyed the show as a teen, she still appreciates it now and compares herself to some of the characters. “I see myself in the characters for sure! As all girls should. Strong, fierce, sassy and cute are all the best ways to be, and we have that deep down inside of us even if we don’t realize it yet.”
In other XCX news, the British pop star recently launched her new label Vroom Vroom Recordings, which is a subsidiary of Atlantic Records UK. Along with the label, XCX also announced a new EP of the same name, which was released this past February. She described Vroom Vroom Recordings as a “new experimental pop label” that blends together “bubblegum pop with mystery and darkness. At the time of the label launch, it already had two acts on the roster, namely synth pop duo RIVRS and singer-songwriter CuckooLander.
In addition to these two, XCX will also release her own music through the label, the first release being her Vroom Vroom EP.
