Labor Day Weekend is just three days away and that means the final big weekend for festivals in the United States. Electric Zoo is gearing up to take over Randall's Island in New York City and as the count down to gates approaches zero the festival has finally unveiled set times, the app, map and official afterparty lineups.
With this data dump coming almost all at once there is a lot to process, but we can start with the easiest part - the app and map. The app has been released with the lineup, set times, map and other features that make it easy to navigate the festival on game day. The map remains unchanged from last year with the main stage on the south side of the island and Sunday School Groove tent closest to the East gate opposite the Hilltop and Riverside Stages.
The set times have been released and unlike most festivals there aren't that many issues with scheduling conflicts. That could be because this is a weaker lineup than in past years, but each day there are maybe only one of two time slots that warrant some serious head scratching.
The festival kicks at 3 p.m. on Friday and the first issue is at 5 pm. When fans have to choose between Sam Feldt, Shaun Frank, who will play something similar, Cubicolor and Feed Me's drum and bass alter ego Spor. They all have some crossover appeal and are worth seeing.
The last time slot can be tough and is on the night with the split of Lane 8 and AME live with Bassnectar on the main stage. It depends on your energy and mood depending on how to play that one.
Saturday doesn't really have any conflicts. The artists are quite different all the way around and will draw different crowds without much of a crossover.
Sunday gets back to more issues. Lil Dicky is an issue against everyone he goes up against because the novelty of seeing him at an EDM festival will be too tempting to pass up. The same can be said for Juicy J, who plays at the same time as notably Andrew Bayer. The Chainsmokers compete with Henrik Swarz and Gareth Emery, while Joris Voorn and Hardwell cap the night on very different notes.
The party doesn't end at 11 p.m. each night if you don't want. There will be several afterparties at venues across New York like Output, Webster Hall and Marquee. Among those who will perform include Borgore, Flux Pavilion, Carnage, Sam Feldt, Eats Everything, Yotto, Gareth Emery and Joris Voorn.
