'Make Me' Singer Britney Spears on Her Anxiety Disorders and Bad Dates in a New Interview

Even pop princesses have bad dates according to a new interview with Britney Spears. The “Make Me” singer also struggles with anxiety, and describes panicking if even a hair was out of place. Spears’ anxiety has gotten so bad at times that it has affected her career, but a recent performance at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards and the release of her ninth studio album, Glory, mark her big comeback in the music industry.

“I had a really bad date,” Spears said to Marie Claire UK. “I mean, it was really bad. I’ve been single for ages and had a date with a guy I liked. I was getting anxious, worrying he wouldn’t like me. In the evening I got on the scales and I had lost six pounds… We went to the movies, but I could tell right away it wasn’t working. It was sort of awkward. So after the movie I came home and that was it. It just didn’t work… He just wasn’t that into me. I liked him. He knew that. But he definitely didn’t feel the same. It happens to everybody. Being famous doesn’t make you any different.”

Anxiety clearly took a toll on Spears’ career during her infamous mental breakdown back in 2007, where she shaved her head and attacked paparazzi with an umbrella. The disorders can be especially challenging to celebrities, who have every aspect of their lives documented. The pop princess only began to overcome her disorder when she took herself out of the spotlight for a time and focused on her two sons, Jayden and Sean Preston.

“Becoming a mother and being with my boys [Jayden, 9, Sean Preston, 10] has made me so much more accepting of myself. I’m their mom, whatever. That has been a really big thing for me over these last few years.”

In other Spears news, a made for TV biopic is coming out on Lifetime about the life of the singer. Reportedly entitled Britney, the film will see a 2017 premiere and production is scheduled to begin on September 17. The company behind the film will be Asylum Entertainment, who produced The Kennedys and Ring of Fire. Spears and her team are not involved with either the production of the film or it’s content.
