Britney Spears' manager recently talked about why the original music video for “Make Me” wasn’t used. NME reports that the original video for “Make Me” was directed by David LaChapelle. “Make Me” serves as the premiere single for her latest album, Glory. Later on, the video was attributed to director Randee St. Nicholas.
According to reports, Spears didn’t like the original promo for the video because it was “too sexy.” The pop star had previously worked with LaChapelle on her 2004 single, “Everytime.” Footage of LaChapelle’s version has leaked online following the director switch-up.
Larry Rudolph told the Los Angeles Times, “It’s really simple. The [original] video just didn’t work. This is the first time we’ve re-shot a video, and because it’s Britney there are all kinds of conspiracies. Nobody is hiding anything.”
In other Spears news, a biopic of the singer entitled Britney is coming to Lifetime TV. Natasha Bassett, who had previously acted in Hail, Cesar, will be playing the role of Spears in the made for TV movie. It has been described as the “tumultuous true story” of the circumstances surrounding her rise to fame, the very public breakdown she suffered and her comeback in the music industry.
Asylum Entertainment is set to produce the video, which is the company behind the two biopics, The Kennedys and Ring of Fire. Producers on board include Anne-Marie Hass, Steve Michaels, Jonathan Koch and Joan Harrison. Lesley Libman will be writing the movie script with the producers. Production on the film is reportedly beginning on September 19 and it will be premiered in 2017.
Representatives for the singer released a statement that read, “Britney Spears will not be contributing in any way, shape or form to the Lifetime biopic nor does it have her blessing.”
