Dr. Luke has sued Kesha’s mother a second time for libel, citing a recent interview in the suit. The suit has also mention social media posts that allude to the producer.
The major interview mentioned in the suit was one that Sebert gave to Billboard this past March.
Court documents report that Dr. Luke sued Sebert this past Wednesday (Sept. 7) for libel through the Middle Tennessee Federal Court. It is the second lawsuit that the producer has filed against Sebert. A revious one had been filed against her in both New York and Tennessee. Both lawsuits asserted that Sebert had drugged and abused her daughter sexually while they worked together. The claim sent to New York had been thrown out, but the claim in Tennessee remains active.
Dr. Luke’s lawyer Christine Lepera said to Billboard, “After we originally filed suit against Pebe Sebert, she continued to make false and defamatory statements against Dr. Luke in her widespread media campaign to damage him and smear his name… Pebe Sebert’s lawyers flat out refused to allow us to add these statements to the existing case or to toll the statute of limitations on them - so we’ve been compelled to file an additional action.”
Alex Little, who represents the "True Colors" singer, released a statement to Pitchfork that read, “This marks Dr. Luke’s second effort to sue a mother for publicly supporting and believing her daughter about being raped. It’s also a transparent attempt to delay the trial of these issues. Mrs. Sebert looks forward to presenting her case to a jury as soon as possible. When the evidence is made public, she expects the jury will conclude that all of her statements have been justified.”
Dr. Luke had also previously sued Kesha herself in October 2014, and his lawyers are pushing for that suit to proceed before the latest one against her mother Sebert.
