Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department have arrested Kenny Birdine for the fatal shooting of rapper Kid Cali in California last month. According to police's investigation, the incident was gang-related.
Justin Lishey, who was known by his rap name Kid Cali and Cali Oso, was shot and killed by Birdine on Aug. 20 while at a pool party in San Fernando Valley's Granada Hills, according to ABC 7. Two individuals were also shot during the incident but did survive. Birdine was charged with first degree murder with a bail set at $3.1 million.
As reported by TMZ, the shooting was caused by a conflict between two rival gangs that were also at the party. Investigators are still trying to determine if Lishey, an up-and-coming rapper in Los Angeles, was a member of the other gang or if he was just an innocent bystander.
Before his death, Lishey even posted about the Summer 16 Millions of Models Mansion Pool Party on his Instagram account. According to the Los Angeles Daily News, the event, which was pay-to-enter, was held at a private house that was rented for the party.
The event was scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. and end around 8 in the evening. Towards the end of the party, gunshots were heard which prompted law enforcement to respond to the scene. Upon their arrival, the officers saw Lishey lying in the backyard of the house with gunshot wounds. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital but eventually died due to his injuries.
