It seems like Katy Perry is in the studio working on new, sunny music... but not the kind her Katy Cats would typically expect. It seems as though the "Birthday" singer is in the studio with her rumored boyfriend Diplo's group Major Lazer working on a little bit of reggae.
According to Popdust, Perry was in the studio with Diplo, Walshy Fire and reggae artist Jesse Royal, while the latter worked on a mixtape. And she wasn't just hanging out... in an interview with blog Jah Blem Muzik, Fire discussed how odd it was seeing one of the world's biggest pop star get her reggae on.
"The funniest moment was having Katy Perry in the studio singing 'woke up this morning feeling so blessed' and writing a whole song to the Rootsman Riddim while Jesse did the dub for Modern Day Judas. Watching her catch that reggae vibe was the best part of recording," he said.
The whole ordeal was even caught on tape, with Perry mouthing along to some sweet reggae words:
It's unconfirmed if Perry's foray into reggae is for a Major Lazer release, a part of Royal's new album or for a project of her own. It is rumored that Perry will be re-releasing Prism like she did with Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection in 2012, so she could be laying down a new pop track for that.
Regardless, Perry's appearance in the studio with Major Lazer is no real surprise to celebrity gossip followers. Perry and Diplo have been rumored to be dating for months after being spotted flirting with each other at Coachella in April.
