It looks like 5 Seconds Of Summer are going to have more than their five seconds of fame this summer. The pop-punk boy band and One Direction protégés have already taken over the charts with singles "Amnesia" and "She Looks So Perfect" and now its looking to do it again. Today (July 15), 5SOS finally released the track "Everything I Didn't Say" in the United States and it rocketed straight to the top of iTunes' Singles Chart.
According to Idolator, the promotional single "Everything I Didn't Say" jumped straight to the top of the charts on the digital retailer upon its release this morning. The bittersweet lovelorn anthem has bested singles from mega-hitmakers MAGIC!, Sam Smith and Ariana Grande, securing their status as bona fide pop stars.
"Everything I Didn't Say" leans more to the punk-y side of the band's sound than its poppier singles like "She Looks So Perfect." Co-written by 5SOS members Ashton Irwin and Calum Hood, the track shares the lost love lyrical themes of "Amnesia," but instead of wanting memories erased, here, 5 Seconds of Summer are looking to go back in time and relive life to be rid of regret.
"Taking every breath away / With all of the mistakes I've made / From all the letters that I've saved / This is everything I didn't say," they blast off in the chorus.
Keeping with its hook-filled signature sound, the chorus of "Everything I Didn't Say" is where the real punch comes in, with tight, short bursts of guitar biting through the meat of the lyrical content.
It's a punchy anthem and the exact time of pop and rock blend 5SOS is known for... so it's no surprise the band's American fans are eating it up.
