Big trouble may await Tom (Ryan Eggold) in this week’s episode of “The Blacklist” Season 5. This is because Red (James Spader) might find out that he is the one holding the mysterious suitcase that is said to contain the skeletal pieces of a yet unknown person.
The promo for the episode titled “Greyson Blaise” shows Red pointing his gun at the head of man who is kneeling. Red was asking the name of the person who stole the suitcase. It turns out that Tom was somewhere hiding in the same room and watching Red interrogate the man. Tom knows that he is good as dead if Red learns that he is there.
Tom has the suitcase because Mr. Kaplan (Susan Blommaert) instructed him to deliver it to his wife, Liz (Megan Boone). It has been previously revealed that he already knows the contents of the suitcase but was not sure what to make of it. Acting on his love for Liz, he wants to first make sure that the suitcase will not bring more sorrow to Liz before he gives it to her.
In a previous Music Times report, Tom stopped short of giving it to Liz in their reunion in the final moments of “The Blacklist” Season 5 premiere. After Liz revealed to him that her real father is Red, Tom scooted the suitcase aside. He knew that Mr. Kaplan didn’t count on Liz knowing what Red was to her.
Eggold said in his interview with People that his character will take it upon himself to investigate the truth behind the contents of the suitcase. He doesn’t trust Red who he knows is not being completely honest with Liz. If Red gets hold of the suitcase, Tom knows the secret will be buried forever.
The actor reveals that Tom is obsessed with figuring out who the skeletal remains belong to and why he was tasked with figuring that out. He understands that the suitcase will affect Liz in a big way. Also, Tom is still trying to deal with the fact that Red is Liz’s father and he has never trusted him. “The Blacklist” Season 5 airs on Wednesdays at 8p.m. EDT on NBC.
