Fantasia Barrino's nephew, Tyquan Vonricco Washington, died of multiple gunshot wounds on Tuesday, Feb. 13, outside his home in Greensboro, North Carolina.
An emergency crew arrived at the scene at 10:54 a.m. and attempted to save the life of the 18-year-old. He was taken to Moses Cone Hospital but he died shortly after.
Authorities have arrested a man named David Lee White Jr., 21 years old, in connection with the shooting. He was charged with first-degree murder and is currently being held at the Guilford County Jail without bail.
According to Captain Nathaniel Davis of the Greensboro Police, Washington and White got into an argument inside the residence in Smith Homes which then spilled into the streets. That was when, the police alleges, White pulled the gun and shot Washington.
Right now, the reason behind the argument between two men has not been revealed. An investigation is still ongoing.
However, the authorities assured that the shooting was an isolated case that sparked from an altercation between two people who knew each other.
This is the sixth homicide case in the city this year.
On Feb. 9, the authorities also responded to reports about a shooting incident at the Summit Station Apartments. Two men were wounded, one fatally. Police said that the victims were familiar with the suspect who was able to drive away from the scene of the crime.
Washington is the son of recording artist Ricco Barrino, whose real name is Kassim Vonricco Washington.
Grieving Family
Barrino, on Instagram, confirmed the news of her nephew's death. In a post, she shared a photo of herself with Tyquan as a young man.
Meanwhile, Ricco has also given a statement about the untimely passing of his young son, telling TMZ that he is devastated because he did not get to see his son on that Tuesday morning like he usually do.
On Instagram, he published a love letter addressed to his son.
"I wanted you to know that from the depths of my heart your daddy loves you and he always has," he wrote. "I remember holding you for the first time that's when I knew that I had to do something other than work in somebody's factory so that one day you could look up to me."
The publication also revealed that the Barrino family has had a rough start to 2018. Another family member, the Grammy Award-winner singer's brother Xavier, has been in the hospital recovering from a serious motorcycle injury.
